  • Stop My Toddler Biting!!

My 18-month-old daughter has suddenly started biting people! It's not everybody, and not all the time.
She bites me, and her younger cousin too, but I've noticed she only bites when she's with her cousin. How can I stop her from biting? And how long is this phase going to last?

Doing some research i find that Dr Spungin's advice was Don't try and stop her biting by smacking her or biting her back! Calmly but swiftly remove her from the scene and say 'No biting!' in a stern voice with a serious expression. Biting can sometimes be a way of gaining attention so be careful not to give more attention to the biter than the victim. Remember a big telling off still means your daughter's in the spotlight - even if she's getting into trouble.

Toddlers often resort to aggressive behaviour when they feel insecure. Pick your little girl up and cuddle her when visitors arrive. While she's getting used to them, let her stay close to you. Don't vanish into the kitchen straight away for coffee but show her how to play with your niece by joining in yourself for the first ten minutes.

I'm going to start using this advice but i would like to know what other views people have on this topic and advise to give as maybe you've gone or going through the same thing?

    The Pain of Growth

Nature appears perfect, but it is not so.
    If things were perfect,
they would not need to grow.
If all was complete, they would not need to evolve
and human beings would have no riddles to solve.
Our world is imperfect and full of pain.
It must be so, if we are to find gains
in real understanding of the way things are
and still find peace in that which remains.

Alexandra ( a modern Romeo and Juliet)

(Based on the violence between the ANC and IFP in Alexandra in 1992)

    Oh Alexandra !,
what should have been a flame of hope
has been consumed by the flames of despair.
Like two lovers who wish to be together,
no force on earth can keep them apart.
But their dance is one of death and destruction
    and not of love.

    Old Soldiers Never Die

I saw the excitement in his old eyes as he saw my uniform
    and for a few seconds
were reflected the memories of the glory of victories won
and the sorrow of comrades fallen.
I should have known from his bearing that he was an old soldier
and I regret having not saluted him then.

    Sentiments on the Hunt

I sadden when I think of the creatures, although but a few,
that had to die until the time that I knew
that their lives were not mine to cause to suffer,
    nor to pain
but Nature’s children under Nature’s reign
better left to Nature’s law and predator’s paw
    to die nobly,
than to die for human vain.

    On Human Suffering

We hear the cry of the children
and seek meaning in the will of God.
It is better to look to the will of men.
Let the father of the child look to his choice,
made without the need of his God
or look to the decision of he, who without God’s will
has sought to trust his own judgement
and whose weakness now touches all.

    The Knowledge

I stood there in the joy of knowing
    and she passed me by
this little black woman, small with age.
Yet as she passed I smiled
    and she smiled.
    She knew that I knew
    and no word was said.
    Words would have been inadequate,
    two souls had spoken instead.

    I am free spirit
    you are fully human
I am activity , air and ideals
and you are the mother of true humanity, the earth.
    We need to be both
and that is why in becoming one ,
we are the completion of true being.

    FORGIVENESS DECREE

    I Am forgiveness acting here,
Casting out all doubt and fear.
    Setting men forever free,

I Am calling in full power,
    For forgiveness every hour.
To all life in every place,
    I flood forth forgiving grace.
    I flood forth forgiving grace.

    ACHING GODDESS

    I am powerful
    I am majestic
    I am a goddess
    And yet I am afraid
Afraid to step up and walk this road
Afraid to leave the ones I have always loved behind
Afraid to shine bright, as is my right
Fear is the loudest cry in me now
And crying against this fear is the goddess within me
    Edging forward
    Aching to be heard
Aching to rise up and shine
    Aching, aching, aching
    I am all powerful
    I am everything from nothing
    I am confusion
    I am clarity
I am all and I am nothing
    I am alone and aching
And yet I am still a goddess

    WHIRLWIND

This world, this universe, this existence
    in this body
is a whirlwind of ups and downs
    and round and rounds.
    There are lightening bolts,
    There are thunder clouds,
    There are tidal waves
    And there are droughts.
    But
    There are gentle raindrops
    There are rainbows
There are warm rays of sunshine
And there are sweet smelling flowers
It is when we turn our faces to the sun
It is when we lie in the green green grass
It is when we stop to smell the flowers
That we suddenly have our moments of clarity
in the whirlwind of ups and downs
For what is outside of us is also inside of us
    We are the rainbows
    We are the flowers
    We are the drought
    We are the tidal waves
We are all, we are everything
    and yet
    We are nothing

    HOMELAND

Within my soul, within my mind,

There lies a place I cannot find.

Home of my heart. Land of my birth.

    Smoke-coloured stone and flame-coloured earth.

    Electric skies. Shivering heat.

    Blood-red clay beneath my feet.

    At night when finally alone,

I close my eyes - and I am home.

I kneel and touch the blood-warm sand

And feel the pulse beneath my hand

Of an ancient life too old to name,

In an ancient land too wild to tame.

How can I show you what I feel?

How can I make this essence real?

I search for words in dumb frustration

To try and form some explanation,

But how can heart and soul be caught

    In one-dimensional written thought?

If love and longing are a “fire”

And Man “consumed” by his desire,

Then this love is no simple flame

That mortal thought can hold or tame.

As deep within the earth’s own core

The love of home burns evermore.

But what is home? I hear them say,

    This never was yours anyway.

You have no birthright to this place,

    Descendant from another race.

    An immigrant? A pioneer?

You are no longer welcome here.

Whoever said that love made sense?

“I love” is an “imperfect” tense.

To love in vain has been Man’s fate

    From history to present date.

I have no grounds for dispensation,

I know I have no home or Nation.

For just one moment in the night

I am complete, my soul takes flight.

For just one moment… then it’s gone

And I am once again undone.

    Never complete. Never whole.

    Aquarius

As we enter into the new age
man will discover that he is
in no way separated from the
Life-force God, or from his neighbour.

He will discover the wisdom, power
and Love of the Father through
a process of recognition and realisation
of the one Life-force within the whole of Life, God.

Man will overcome the illusion of time.
Experiencing the "now" will create his new
    awareness and perfection.

    Through understanding simply that the
    subconscious within each individual
(the heart) is constantly in thought with the
    Supreme Life-force existing in Eternity.
And becomes aware that it is the confusion
that enters into the consciousness through
thought and deed that creates the error of
action and the chaos that follows.

    The subconscious is cleansed through
rejecting the false, and allowing only that
which is true to enter. Man is born into the
deception that time and space exist, and is
subject to the earthly senses of greed, revenge,
hate, jealousy, sloth... It is for each to understand that
these kindly earthly energies stimulate growth
into Eternity, and have no power in Reality.

Man being born of the Father, in His same image
and likeness, must become aware that this same
Life-force exists within himself through giving up
individual personality, and accepting the Eternal
    Life-force as it's own.

Jesus described the path that each will be guided
upon to reach this state of existence, and in so
"bring heaven to earth". It is for each to recognize
that the process of birth, crucifixion, resurrection
and assention reflect their similar path to understanding
their relationship to the whole of Life. Jesus is the Lord
of His people and he says "follow in my footsteps
    for I know the way".

As each journeys further along the path of the Christ
so too will the Divine Healing of the Father enter their
minds and bodies, and freedom will be experienced.
Perfect creation will replace the self perceiving
    individual mind.

This is our inheritance as taught by Jesus, and the
many who have found His Truth. Nobody has seen
the Father, for the Father exists beyond the mind.
His Reality is perfect substance in which all is created.
The inner becomes the outer, spirit becomes the material,
and in no way is anything formed in any other fashion.

It is the Father who expresses Himself in His creation, Jesus
said "I of myself am nothing, it is the Father that doeth the
work". Man's acceptance and understanding of these words
will set him free now!! It is mans fear of death and ignorance
of Life that divides him from the Real Life-force within Himself.

Freedom has come to many, and will come to all, "for all are
one flock, and all have one Shepherd", and through loving thy neighbour
as thyself, and forgiving all, the veil of ignorance will be
dissolved, and each will express their perfect presence.

The table is already set with delights the mind has yet
considered. Drink from the fountain of Life, and not from
the tree of knowledge, and enter, and feast, and be free.
All of this joy awaits man's understanding and acceptance
of His Divine presence as each new moment begins.

We have been taught that we must bring heaven with us
before we may enter. Love thy neighbour as thyself is true
religion, and is the expression of the Father's Love and Reality.

Be at peace and feel the Love of the Father shine through the Christ within yourself. The Light of the Christ is the conquerer of the world, and has dominion over all things. The Father gives perfect life through His only begotten Son, the Christ. This light burns within each soul on earth, and awaits only self discovery.

    Pirate's Son

To the Pirate's Son the act of capture and
overthrow is both cunning and bold.
    A sure path to follow.

We are born into the perceptions created
by our communities. And live within
    their goals and ideals.

The Pirates Son chooses his reward from
the confines of his nature, and peruses
    relentlessly after his illusive treasures.
This is his Life, and his joy.

His victories earn respect from family
and friends. And he is regarded as fine
council. For this is the only perception of Life's
Reality as considered by the Pirates Son.

Only with the understanding of Reality within
the Father can these perceptions of passage
be dissolved. For it is only in ignorance of
Universal Laws that the Pirates Son creates
his darkness and nights that follow.

Pirate's Sons we are all until our thoughts
pierce the veil of Time and Space, and the
gift of the Eternal Present and Unity is received.

    A Phenomenal Woman

When I was in my younger days,
I weighed a few pounds less,
I needn't hold my tummy in
    to wear a belted dress.

But now that I am older,
    I've set my body free;
    There's comfort of elastic
Where once my waist would be.

    Inventor of those high-heeled shoes
    My feet have not forgiven;
I have to wear a nine now,
But used to wear a seven.

    And how about those pantyhose-
They're sized by weight, you see,
So how come when I put them on
The crotch is at my knee?

I need to wear these glasses
    As the print's been getting smaller;
And it wasn't very long ago
I know that I was taller.

Though my hair has turned to grey
and my skin no longer fits,
On the inside, I'm the same old me,
    It's the outside that's changed a bit.

    Tiny angel For YOU

    I am a tiny angel
    I'm smaller than your thumb:
    I live in people's pockets
That's where I have my fun
    I don't suppose you've seen me,
    I'm too tiny to detect:
Though I'm with you all the Time,
    I doubt we've ever met.

    Before I was an Angel...
    I was a fairy in a flower:
    God, Himself, hand-picked me,
    And gave me Angel power

Now God has many Angels That He trains in Angel pools:
We become His eyes, and ears, and hands
    We become His special tools.

And because God is so busy,
    With way too much to do;
    He said that my assignment
Is to keep close watch on you.

When He tucked me in your Pocket
    He blessed you with Angel care;
Then told me to never leave you,
And I vowed always to be there.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I was walking down life's highway
    many years ago
I came upon a sign that read
    Heaven's Grocery Store.
When I got a little closer
    the doors swung open wide
And when I came to myself
    I was standing inside.
I saw a host of angels.

    They were standing everywhere
    One handed me a basket
and said "My child shop with care."

    Everything a human needed
    was in that grocery store
And what you could not carry
you could come back for more

    First I got some Patience.
Love was in that same row.
    Further down was Understanding,
you need that everywhere you go.
got a box or two of Wisdom
and Faith a bag or two.
    And Charity of course
I would need some of that too.
I couldn't miss the Holy Ghost
It was all over the place.
    And then some Strength
and Courage to help me run this race.

    My basket was getting full
but I remembered I needed Grace,
And then I chose Salvation for
    Salvation was for free
I tried to get enough of that to do
    for you and me.

Then I started to the counter
    to pay my grocery bill,
For I thought I had everything
    to do the Masters will.

As I went up the aisle
I saw Prayer and put that in,
For I knew when I stepped outside
    I would run into sin.

    Peace and Joy were plentiful,
the last things on the shelf.
Song and Praise were hanging near
    so I just helped myself.

Then I said to the angel
"Now how much do I owe?"
    He smiled and said
"Just take them everywhere you go."

    Again I asked "Really now,
    How much do I owe?"
"My child" he said, "God paid your bill
    a long long time ago

    People are often unreasonable, illogical,
    And self-centred;
    Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, People may accuse you
    Of selfish, ulterior motives;
    Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some
    False friends and some true enemies;
    Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank,
    People may cheat you;
    Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone
    Could destroy overnight;
    Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness
    They may be jealous;
    Be happy anyway.

    The good you do today,
    People will often forget tomorrow;
    Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,
    And it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis
    It is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

    Cases on the Beach

Cases on the beach? I ask,
    Where will you sleep tonight?

When the sun goes down, I'll rest my head,
And there will be my bed.
The soft, white sand my mattress, the stars my silken sheet,
The soft moon's glow, with soothing beams
    Will ease my aching feet.

And, as the wind begins to whisper and the waves come rolling in,
The music of the Universe will free my soul to sing.
Far and wide I'll travel before the break of day,
To special places close at hand and others far away.
And, when my work is done in this life we cannot see,
I'll return to where I left last night to fulfil my destiny.
Pick up my rod and staff and the things I've brought along,
And carry on my journey until this day is done,
Taking all life has to offer and giving in return
All I have to offer to complete the sacred turn.

With these words said, he bade me well
And turned to walk away, I wished him well, sent him love,
There was nothing I could say,
But I watched him as he walked, steadfastly, on his way,
And often, now, I think of him and all he had to say.
He could not give me answers to the questions that I had,
But he gave me all there was to give, all there was to have.
He gave me of his purpose, in the cycle of his time,
And I, in turn, more quietly, gave to him of mine.

And so our meeting ended, as all things come to pass,
And I presumed, naively, that we had seen our last,
But I saw him just the other day,
On a different stretch of beach,
He didn't have his cases and he didn't stay to teach,
He simply raised his hand in greeting,
    And smiled a tender smile,
Floated from the soft, white sand,
    Hovered singing for a while,
When a blinding beam of light
    Encased his shining soul
And he departed from this world of goods
To where - I do not know,
But I know that I shall follow,
One day, as is my turn,
When I have given all that I can give
    And taken in return.

    The Truth

Oh Blessed children, hear my call,
you need to hear this one and all.
I made the day, I made the night
I made all people, black and white.

There is no strength or special valour
in any different sort of pallor.
I made the darkness and the light,
I made the day to balance night.

You can't compare the sun or shade,
or anything that I have made.
I gave all people different talents,
I did this so that they would balance.

I did this so that you could see
    the difference that makes harmony.
Light shines from both the Moon and Sun,
by being different, you are one.

    AFTER A WHILE

After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul, and you learn that Love does not mean learning, and that company does not mean security, and as you begin to learn that kisses are not contracts, and presents are not promises, and you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open, with the grace of an adult not the grief of a child, and you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow`s ground is too uncertain for plans.

After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much.

So plant your own garden and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

And you learn that you really can endure, that you really are strong, and you really do have worth.

    The Essence of You

I was walking down the mountain
    Alongside a bubbling spring
The air was hot and balmy
I thought “Hey, how about a swim?”

    I peered into the water
    Expecting a reflection of me
In the ripples and the shadows not a thing could I see
Suddenly my heart began to pound
    The world tilting all around
A little voice inside my head whispered
“Do not worry. This is the essence of Me”.

If I am You and You are Me
And we are all a part of what we see
You have the gift of Inner Knowing
    Examine it, it’s free
Join the source of life, JUST BE.

You are constant, eternal, pure and filled with grace
As this spring meanders down the mountain, knowing it’s place
So in this world around you, please fill this space.

    You are Light
    You are Love
    You are Energy sublime
    Do not grow weary
    You are Grace Divine.

    THE ENLIGHTENED CAT!

    Don't think too much about
    The meaning of his name
Or where he has come from.
And if you're wondering about the earring -
It's a throwback to his Egyptian past.
    As for the collar,
The Yin Yang is there to remind you
That life is a balancing act:
A little bit of this, and a little bit of that.
Find space for him in your home
    (But give you dog a little extra attention);
And make sure you never serve him meat in a plastic bowl,
    For Puddha is a vegetarian
With a fondness for Oriental China
(Chopsticks might be pushing it, though…)
And you'll never catch him killing anything -
Birds, butterflies, mice and fairies are his friends.
He doesn't like milk - milk is for babies
And Puddha is an old soul, a very old soul is he.
Watch the gentle lessons that unfold before your eyes
And curve your mouth into a smile.
Try not to kill yourself laughing
Although at times you may wish to,
But rather just absorb each precious moment of joy
    That Puddha shares with you,
For that's all there is, really - THIS MOMENT

    INDIAN PROPHECY
Only after the last tree has been cut down,
Only after the last river has been poisoned,
Only after the last fish has been caught,
Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.

    RISK
    Love & Risk being hurt.
Give & Risk being taken for granted.
    Help & Risk involvement.
    Speak out & Risk disagreement.
    Be different & Risk criticism.
Make a valid attempt & Risk failure.
    Climb & Risk falling.
    Truly live & Risk dying.
    Life is a risk!
Those who avoid all risks are avoiding life itself.
Indeed life’s greatest risk is not to risk at all!

    CHOICES
I did not choose to be born.
I could not choose my parents.
    I had no choice regarding
when and where I was born.
I had no choice about how
    I was brought up.
But there comes a time when I must take
    responsibility for the choices
    I can make.
In the end, I can choose how
    I will live.

    THE INVITATION:

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for,
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.
It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love,
for your dream, and for the adventure of being alive.

I doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon.
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow,
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals,
or have become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own,
without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own:
if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you
to the tips of your fingers and toes, without cautioning us to be careful,
be realistic, or to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true,
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself,
if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.
I want to know if you can see beauty even when it is not pretty, every day,
and if you can source your life from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine,
and still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the silver moon, ‘Yes!’

It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have,
I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair,
weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know, how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand at the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back.
It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself,
and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

    SLOW DANCE.

    Have you ever watched kids
    On a merry-go-round?
    Or listened to the rain
    Slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
    You better slow down.
    Don't dance so fast.
    Time is short.
    The music won't last.
Do you run through each day
On the fly? When you ask "How are you ?"
    Do you hear the reply?
    When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed
    With the next hundred chores
    Running through your head?
    You'd better slow down
    Don't dance so fast.
    Time is short.
    The music won't last.

    Ever told your child,
    We'll do it tomorrow?
    And in your haste,
    Not seen his sorrow?
    Ever lost touch,
    Let a good friendship die
Cause you never had the time to call and say "Hi?"
    You'd better slow down.
    Don't dance so fast.
    Time is short.
    The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift....
    Thrown away.
    Life is not a race.
    Do take it slower
    Hear the music
    Before the song is over.

    ANGEL ON EARTH

Once upon a time there was a child ready to be born.
The child asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?"
God replied, "Among the many angels, I chose one for you. Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."
The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy."
God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you every day. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."
Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?"
God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak."
"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"
God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray."
"I've heard that on Earth there are bad men. Who will protect me?"
God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."
"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."
God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about me and will teach you the way to come back to me, even though I will always be next to you."
At that moment there was much peace in heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name."
"Her name is not important. You will simply call her Mom."

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.

When people come into your life for a SEASON, it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real!, but, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person/people (anyway); and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant. Thank you for being a part of my life. Smile and stop here if you're not into this final part: This is to show people you love them and to see how many people love you!!!!!!
